There are only a few changes in TimeTune 4.8, but they are very important 🚨
Let’s check them out:
SUBSCRIPTIONS ANNOUNCEMENT
As we explained in a previous article, TimeTune Premium will switch to a subscription service soon:
This change is necessary in order to make the development of TimeTune sustainable. Please check that article to know more details about that decision.
Remember that if you bought a Premium license in the past, this change will not affect you. You’ll still enjoy a lifetime license and you won’t have to pay anymore 😀
And before switching to subscriptions, we’re offering for a limited time a last chance to purchase a lifetime license with a one-time payment. So if you were on the fence about going Premium, this might be the perfect opportunity! ✨
BETTER PRIVACY
Starting version 4.8, TimeTune will only show non-personalized ads in the ad banner. Non-personalized ads don’t require the collection of Google’s Advertising ID, allowing for better privacy for everyone.
Why this change? 🤔
According to the General Data Protection Regulation from the European Union, all apps and websites that use cookies or collect identifiers must show a consent form to all European users where they can accept or reject this collection of data.
(Users outside the European Union don’t see that consent form, but they can avoid the collection of data by opting out of personalized advertising in their Google accounts.)
However, the implementation of that consent form is a bit of a nightmare in mobile apps (and they also interfere with other processes in the app).
So in the end, we decided to simplify the app by removing the consent form and showing non-personalized ads to everyone. We know this change will lead to a decrease in ad revenue (how much, we don’t know), so this is basically a ‘leap of faith’ for us.
REMOTE CONFIG
In this version we implemented Firebase Remote Config into the app. This product from Firebase allows developers to test and control app features on the fly without publishing a new version every time.
Here are some examples of things we can do with Remote Config:
- Test new features
- Perform A/B tests
- Customize the aspect of the app
- Run promotions, etc
For the moment, we added a remote flag to change the content of the ad banner. Instead of normal ads, free users may see from time to time a reminder to upgrade to Premium before the change to subscriptions.
CONCLUSION
As you can see, the changes in TimeTune 4.8 are mostly internal. However, this version represents an important step for the future of the project.
We also hope you understand why the change to subscriptions is necessary. If you have any questions, please contact us at timetuneapp@gmail.com or on our social media channels:
