Hello TimeTuners! TimeTune 5.4 is here with new improvements! 😀
This version includes several “quality of life” changes, plus some bug fixes that required immediate attention 🙀
We also have more information about the upcoming removal (or not) of the ‘Blocks’ section. More details towards the end of the article.
Let’s see what’s new!
WELCOME JAPAN!
TimeTune 5.4 finally includes the Japanese translation, which had been requested for some time now:
Translating the app to Japanese is not an easy task, and that’s why we ordered a professional translation (shoutout to Crowdin Translation Services, their service is top-notch!).
Japan is a big market in the productivity space. We hope the new translation helps TimeTune grow in the land of the rising sun, while helping its users at the same time.
SOLVING PROBLEMS WITH LARGE FONTS
When users selected a large font size in their devices, times in the schedule appeared with an ellipsis that made reading the times impossible 😤
TimeTune 5.4 avoids the ellipsis and uses all available space to show the times:
Now, even if the available space is limited, you can still see the times correctly.
FIXING ANDROID 14 CRASHES
Some users with Android 14 may have experienced strange behaviors, like screens not closing when accepting edition changes, unexpected blank screens or annoying crashes 💥
It turns out these problems were related to the predictive back gesture implemented by Google since Android 14 (although the problems happened in Android 14 exclusively).
We added the proper solution, so these errors shouldn’t happen anymore. But if you still observe strange behaviors, let us know!
FIXING LOW-MEMORY CRASHES
When the Android system needs memory, it may close recent apps and reclaim their space in memory (this is more common in low-end devices).
That should be completely transparent to users, but if apps are not careful with their implementations a crash may occur when trying to reopen the app.
And that’s what was happening to us. Granted, it only happened to a handful of users, but it was annoying nonetheless.
We applied the proper fix and that problem shouldn’t happen anymore 🙅
SOCIAL MEDIA BUTTONS
TimeTune 5.4 includes new social media buttons in the settings screen:
Since we ‘buried’ the social media options in the ‘About TimeTune’ section a while ago, the amount of new followers decreased considerably 😮
Either we like it or not, social media is essential for software projects. If people don’t talk about your project online, your project basically doesn’t exist.
Will these buttons help our social media channels grow? Well, we’ll publish the results… on social media! 😉
THE ‘BLOCKS’ SECTION
If you remember our last changelog, we announced the removal of the ‘Blocks’ section in a future update. The app also included a message announcing the change 📢
The idea was to integrate this functionality in other sections of the app (like the new search option in the schedule), and liberate space on the bottom menu for new features.
Since the announcement, only a few users have contacted us requesting us to keep the ‘Blocks’ section, thus confirming that this section is not used much.
However, we acknowledge that the removal of the ‘Blocks’ section may cause inconvenience if the alternative is not good enough 🤔
So for the moment we’re holding off on this change. We removed the warning message and we’re going to collect more information before making a final decision.
If you use the ‘Blocks’ section regularly, let us know how you use it so we can find a good solution for everyone!
OTHER CHANGES
As always, the new version includes other minor changes:
- Changed ‘Kiteki’ references to ‘RoutineWin’.
- Correction for several text alignments.
- New ‘play’ icon to track activities in the ‘Activities’ section.
- Internal optimizations.
- Library updates.
As you can see, TimeTune 5.4 is just an incremental update. Nothing fancy, but it’s the kind of update we need to publish from time to time to avoid bigger problems in the future.
That said, stay tuned for more news! 🥰
